SAJU JIRUGI (10TH GUP WHITE BELT, 7 MOVEMENTS PER SIDE)

4-Direction Punch is a fundamental excersise practiced by 10th grade holders or new starters to Taekwon-Do. It is comprised of two sides, left and right, each with 7 movements.

Arm techniques

  • Mid Punch [Forefist]
  • Low Block [Forearm]

Body movements

  • Turning L 90°
  • Turning R 90°
  • Stepping Forward
  • Stepping Backward
Right Side Sequence
  1. Face D in Parallel Ready Stance (Junbi).
  2. Step forward toward D into a right walking stance, performing a right forefist middle punch.
  3. Turn left 90° and step backward toward A into a left walking stance, performing a left forearm low block.
  4. Step forward toward B into a right walking stance, performing a right forefist middle punch.
  5. Turn left 90° and step backward toward D into a left walking stance, performing a left forearm low block.
  6. Step forward toward C into a right walking stance, performing a right forefist middle punch.
  7. Turn left 90° and step backward toward B into a left walking stance, performing a left forearm low block.
  8. Step forward toward A into a right walking stance, performing a right forefist middle punch.
  9. Turn left 90° to face D and return to Parallel Ready Stance at the call of "Junbi".
Left Side Sequence

  1. Face D in Parallel Ready Stance (Junbi).
  2. Step forward toward D into a left walking stance, performing a left forefist middle punch.
  3. Turn right 90° and step backward toward B into a right walking stance, performing a right forearm low block.
  4. Step forward toward A into a left walking stance, performing a left forefist middle punch.
  5. Turn right 90° and step backward toward D into a right walking stance, performing a right forearm low block.
  6. Step forward toward C into a left walking stance, performing a left forefist middle punch.
  7. Turn right 90° and step backward toward A into a right walking stance, performing a right forearm low block.
  8. Step forward toward B into a left walking stance, performing a left forefist middle punch.
  9. Turn right 90° to face D and return to Parallel Ready Stance at the call of "Junbi".

Training note

Saju Jirugi is one of the first directional exercises introduced in ITF Taekwon-Do. It develops coordination, stepping, correct walking stance mechanics, turning, punching, blocking, and directional awareness. Students should practice both sides evenly while maintaining correct posture, balance, and sine wave principles according to their level.
