Reverse Hooking Kick – Bandae Goro Chagi

Name and Terminology

Korean Name: Bandae Dollyo Gorochagi (반대 돌려 걸어차기) • Bandae (반대): Reverse • Dollyo (돌려): Turning • Goro (걸어): Hooking • Chagi (차기): Kick

Description

The Reverse Hooking Kick is a variation of the Reverse Turning Kick, with two main purposes: • Delivering a strike to the target. • Hooking or catching an opponent who moves in during the execution of the kick. This kick is especially useful in counter-attacking situations where the opponent attempts to close the distance.

Execution Principles

1. Bring the heel close to the body immediately after completing the kick to prepare for recoil or follow-up techniques. 2. Bend the kicking leg appropriately during the kick to control the arc and angle of the hooking motion.

Technical Notes

• The motion starts similarly to a reverse turning kick, but instead of extending fully toward the target, the kick curves inward to hook. • The hooking motion can off-balance an opponent if it makes contact during their forward movement. • Controlled leg bending during execution is essential for accuracy and preventing overextension.
