Choi-Yong was greatly respected for his loyalty, patriotism, and humility. He was executed by subordinate commanders headed by General Yi Seong-Gye, who later became the first king of the Yi Dynasty.
Choi-Yong Tul is performed by 3rd Dan Black Belt students and contains 46 movements. The pattern requires mature control of consecutive kicking motion, fast motion, continuous motion, hooking kicks, side front turning kicks, mid front snap kicks, high reverse hooking kicks, and precise stance transitions.

Performance Notes
Choi-Yong Tul requires strong technical discipline and a calm black belt attitude. The student must show clear control in the kicking sections, especially the reverse hooking kick, side front turning kick, mid front snap kick, and side piercing kick. Each kick must be chambered, executed with the correct tool, recovered cleanly, and followed by a stable stance.
The pattern includes repeated guard positions, circular blocks, hooking blocks, thrusts, and punches. These actions must not become loose or rushed. The stance line, reaction force, breathing, and direction of every technique should remain clear.
Because this pattern honors a historical figure remembered for loyalty and humility, the performance should be serious and respectful. Power should be controlled, not forced, and the student should demonstrate technical maturity throughout all 46 movements.

Key Learning Objectives
- Perform all 46 movements with accurate direction and control
- Develop clean execution of reverse hooking kick and side front turning kick combinations
- Improve balance during bending ready stance, X-stance, and rear foot stance transitions
- Coordinate W-shape block, circular block, hooking block, thrusts, and knife-hand strikes
- Maintain maturity, discipline, and humility throughout the full pattern
Important Reminder
Choi-Yong Tul contains 46 movements. Students should practise the kicking sections slowly first, then connect the pattern while preserving stance accuracy, correct hand placement, and clear technique lines. Speed should never replace technical control.
